๐ Step-by-Step: How to Adjust Your Motorcycle Clutch
1. Locate the Clutch Lever Adjuster
-
Most motorcycles have an adjuster screw and locknut near the clutch lever.
-
Turn the adjuster out (counterclockwise) to increase tension or in (clockwise) to loosen.
2. Measure Free Play
-
There should be 2โ3mm of free play between the clutch lever and the perch before resistance is felt.
-
Too much slack? Tighten it up. Too little? Loosen it slightly.
3. Fine-Tune with the Cable Adjuster
-
For deeper adjustment, follow the cable down to the mid or engine-side adjuster.
-
Loosen the locknut and adjust the cable until desired tension is reached.
-
Retighten the locknut securely.
4. Test the Clutch Function
-
Squeeze the clutch. The resistance should be smooth with no โdead zones.โ
-
Start the bike and shift through a few gears to ensure smooth transitions.
